exploring abstraction
As an artist I draw from the Celtic Monastic heritage in Wales, the spirituality and love of creation. My passion is to explore the interplay of these two realms and how we experience one through the other.
My work is very intuitive at the start, a playful exploration of marks, colours etc until I find something that I can work with or I have a sense of what the painting is. It is more of an 'inside to outside' approach and brings with it the cumulative experiences of walking the landscape in which I live, favourite places, life and whatever is going on for me at the time. I keep working until I feel I need to stand back and review what's working, what's not and edit checking composition, colour, contrast, tone etc. The foundation of this approach is mark making, very loose and flowing.
